Micro grid
From Miiu.org
A micro grid is a power system that allows the local system to generate its own power and, in case of energy disturbance, separate itself from the larger energy network. Micro grids may be based on a P2P or distributed model, allowing people to generate and deliver energy to other people.
Advantages
- Energy travels far shorter distances than under centralized power systems, reducing power lost during the transfer.
- Redundancy in the system adds to system resilience.
- Micro grids usually wont generate the high levels of pollution typical of centralized power systems.
Disadvantages
- More expensive the centralized power systems.
