Navigation Overview

Navigation is the practice of monitoring and directing the location of a person or vehicle relative to known locations.

Modern navigators can rely on computer and satellite systems to locate them in real time using the GPS system, but should that go down or be jammed, the following is how to find your location using analog means.

Terminology

Latitude describes location parallel to the equator, with the North Pole at 90 degrees N, and the south 90 degrees S.

Longitude describes location parallel to the prime meridian. Your location is described as an intersection of the two.
